How SmartDNS Works

When you access a geo-restricted site, the first thing your device does is a DNS lookup — translating the domain name into an IP address. SmartDNS intercepts only those DNS queries for geo-sensitive domains and returns responses that route your connection through our UK proxy infrastructure.

Your actual streaming data — the video, audio, everything you watch — travels directly from the streaming server to your device at full speed. Only the initial DNS handshake passes through our servers. This is why SmartDNS has zero speed impact on streaming quality.

Because we use SNI (Server Name Indication) proxy technology, the streaming service sees a valid connection originating from the correct region — without any VPN tunnel, encryption overhead or IP masking of your main connection.

SNI Proxy Technology

Our SmartDNS infrastructure uses SNI (Server Name Indication) proxy servers to handle the geo-sensitive portion of streaming connections. When a streaming service performs its region check, our servers present the correct regional identity — satisfying the geo-block without encrypting or routing all your traffic.

The service is built on a dual UK server architecture for redundancy. Both primary and secondary DNS servers are located in the UK with automatic failover. Your subscription gives you access to both servers simultaneously.

We continuously update our routing tables as streaming services modify their geo-detection methods — your DNS addresses never change, but our backend adapts to keep services working reliably.
